ONE TO WATCH: POP NEWCOMER AND ACTRESS TARA LEE LAUNCHES DEBUT SINGLE ‘BOYZ’
Dublin-born pop newcomer and actress Tara Lee is already making waves for her stand-out roles in critically-acclaimed films and prime time television, but her music now takes centre stage with the arrival of ‘Boyz’ – her debut single.
Hailing from a musical family with a film composer father and music producer brother, performing has long been Tara’s life blood. The 23-year old trained as a dancer in the Performing Arts College in Dublin but her creative inquisition soon led her into singing and songwriting, where she effortlessly found her style of fusing raw, emotional ballads with a contemporary pop twist.
‘Boyz’ is an atmospheric slice of noir-electro pop about an intoxicating fascination with the wrong kind of men. She co-wrote the track with producer Justin Broad (Emeli Sandé, Izzy Bizu) and Paul Herman. Tara’s influences – David Bowie, Massive Attack, Blondie and Nick Cave – may flavour the track but it is her bewitching vocal performance that steals the spotlight.
A formidable live performer described by Dublin Concerts as “modern, with genuine popstar stage presence”, Tara supported Hurts on tour in December 2017 and performed at Live Nation’s ‘Female Artists to Watch For in 2019’ showcase along with Alice and Maeve earlier this month in London. Tara will also be supporting Drama at Waiting Room in London on 5 September. Tara was immediately signed up by BMG Chrysalis publishing following her performance at the International Music Industry Awards, where she played in front of legendary songwriter Diane Warren. She is currently writing and recording with Swedish pop producer Jonas Quant (Hurts, Kylie Minogue), Blair MacKichan (Paloma Faith, Sia) and Justin Broad.
Alongside her music, Tara is a rising star in the film and television world. She has starred alongside Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan in the successful BBC drama The Fall and appeared in two critically-acclaimed films in the past year: Moon Dogs (which picked up a slew of international awards) and A Date For Mad Mary (IFTA Award for Best Picture). Tara also recently starred in a lead storyline on the popular BBC drama Eastenders, playing the mysterious newcomer Jessica.
