THE RECORD LABEL FROM NOTTING HILL ARTS CLUB / NOTTING HILL ACADEMY OF MUSIC

PROVIDING THE PLATFORM FOR NEW ARTISTS

On October 28th, Notting Hill Arts Club (NHAC) will announce its latest venture, Notting Hill Arts Club Recordings.

Building on the venue’s extensive background of supporting rising artists, NHACR will provide the platform for the next generation of musicians to kickstart their careers. In a climate where UK nightlife is seeing club closures on weekly basis, NHAC is not only defying this notion, it is helping to produce the very talent to keep our industry thriving.

Heading up the label will be Ewan Grant, Chief Operating Officer at the Notting Hill Academy Of Music, Relentless Records and the Notting Hill Arts Club. “Starting the label seemed like a natural progression for the business”, commented Ewan. “Over the years we have had some really special acts come through our doors at the early stages of their careers, and as we are all heavily invested in quality music across the businesses, it seemed the right time to set up the label and put out music that we can add value to and that we have a passion and love for.”

He’ll be joined alongside Shabs Jobanputra, MD of Relentless Records and founder of the Academy. He said, “The closure of so many key venues over the years has seen a need to adapt and diversify the core business model. With the label, the venue and the academy, we see this as a massive win-win for artists, employees and students.”

The first bands signed to the label are Grimm Twins, Birthday Card and Jesse Wong. Grimm Twins (who will be the label’s first release on November 15, distributed via The Orchard) hail from Macclesfield and stunned the NHAC crowd earlier this year with their charged performance. All three of the bands will be performing at a special launch event at the Arts Club on November 13th.

Notting Hill Arts Club sits as one of London’s most important and historic clubbing institutions. The West London independent music venue has hosted countless global stars such as Ed Sheeran, The Libertines, Lily Allen, Mark Ronson and more. Crucially, for many of these artists, their performance came at the start of their career, highlighting the venue’s longstanding commitment to championing new talent.

In recent years, the Notting Hill Academy of Music was formed – a vocational music business school offering courses for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the music industry. This has been a fantastic success with various alumni now working in roles across the music industry – from A&Rs at major labels to artist management.

The label is now the next phase in its exciting journey.
