Mumford & Sons to headline Teenage Cancer Trust 20thanniversary gig at the Royal Albert Hall
Teenage Cancer Trust has announced the final act set to headline its annual fundraising concert series at the Royal Albert Hall in 2020, which take place from March 23rd to March 29th.
Kicking off the week’s exciting run of shows is Mumford & Sons who will be making their Teenage Cancer Trust debut. To summarise their success within a few short sentences is to do the band a huge disservice to what can be broadly considered a global phenomenon.
The folk-rock band shot to success in 2009 with their multi-million selling debut album ‘Sigh No More’. The band have since released three more albums which have all debuted at the top of either the UK Albums Chart or US Billboard 200. In 2018, Mumford & Sons released their substantial fourth album, ‘Delta’. The critical consensus suggested that Delta is their finest work to date, finding Mumford & Sons at their most adventurous.
Mumford & Son’s immense popularity over the past 13 years has seen the band become one of Britain’s biggest success stories, winning two BRIT Awards and a prestigious ‘Album of the Year’ GRAMMY in 2013. A hot fixture on the global live and festival circuit, the band has played headlining slots at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds Festival and Bonnaroo, while regularly playing their own shows across Asia, Europe and North America.
Supporting them is The Big Moon. The Mercury Prize nominees recently released their broadly acclaimed second album, ‘Walking Like We Do’ – a charming and giddily melodic indie-rock record, which is already being heralded as an early contender for album of the year. The quartet’s thrilling live performances are also must-see events, with NME commenting on a recent London show, “If you didn’t already believe in these four ladies as the next great British band, you’d have a hard time denying them now.”
Also announced this week are the special guests joining John Bishop – Alan Carr, Paul Chowdhry, Russell Kane, Suzi Ruffell, Seann Walsh, Greg Davies, Joel Dommett & Rob Beckett – plus the news that Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are supporting Noel Gallagher, Ishmael Ensemble will be supportingGroove Armada and Dishy Tangent will be warming up the crowd for Nile Rodgers & CHIC.
2020 marks the 20th year of Teenage Cancer Trust’s phenomenally successful series of music and comedy events at The Royal Albert Hall, which were started by Roger Daltrey CBE, making this year all the more special. The gigs will also help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Teenage Cancer Trust.
Some of the biggest names in entertainment have now raised more than £30 million for Teenage Cancer Trust’s specialist nurses, hospital wards and support teams that help young people through the toughest times of their lives.
Over the past 20 years, audiences at Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual gigs have witnessed some extraordinary, once in a lifetime shows, from Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn performing together for the first time ever in 2013, Sir Paul McCartney in 2012, plus the likes of Oasis, Muse, Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine and many more.
Other headliners previously announced so far are: An Evening of Comedy Hosted by John Bishop + Special Guests (24th March), Stereophonics featuring very special guest Paul Weller (25th March), Groove Armada supported by Ishmael Ensemble (26th March), Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds(27th March), The Who (28th March) and Nile Rodgers & Chic (29th March).

But much more needs to change, and we can’t wait another 30 years for that to happen.
