MELODYVR APPOINTS JAMES GARSIDE ASHEAD OF PRODUCT
MelodyVR has appointed James Garside as its head of product. Based in London, he will hold global responsibility for developing and maintaining a best-in-class customer experience across the virtual reality music company’s portfolio.
The global role, effective immediately, will see Garside looking after the MelodyVR product – available via the MelodyVR app on smartphones and VR headsets. He will report into MelodyVR’s CEO, Anthony Matchett.
Garside joins MelodyVR from video streaming service DAZN. One of the original product team who built, launched and scaled DAZN through its first nine territories, he helped to mould it into the world’s highest-grossing sports app. Prior to DAZN, Garside worked as product manager at Ministry of Sound, where he created music and video apps – including launching a DJ video streaming service, broadcasting sets from the legendary Ministry of Sound club.
James Garside comments: “I’m delighted to be joining MelodyVR at such a seminal point in its story. After a momentous year for the business, it is thrilling to help shape its product offering for more success in the future. Having already established itself as the world’s
leading destination for immersive live music content, its potential is infinite.”
Anthony Matchett, CEO and founder MelodyVR adds: “We welcome James at exactly the right time for the business. 2020 is going to be our most important year yet, and we couldn’t think of a better pair of hands to help MelodyVR capitalise upon – and create – huge opportunities not just for the company, but for immersive music entertainment generally.”
MelodyVR launched in 2018 with a simple mandate: not to replace the live music experience, but to harness the power of virtual reality to get people closer to the music they love.
By using VR technology, the founders realised that they could place fans in the crowd or on stage with their favourite musicians at live events. From epic stadium shows to intimate studio performances, the possibilities are endless: capacity restrictions are eliminated, music lovers can attend otherwise sold-out dates, and the barriers (distance, age, cost, access) that might keep people from experiencing their heroes live are swept away. The result? Artists can reach more fans than ever before, with a level of intimacy which has previously not been possible.
MelodyVR is the only licensed VR music platform and has the world’s largest library of exclusive immersive and interactive music experiences from the likes of Post Malone, Lewis Capaldi, Mabel, Wiz Khalifa, Kelly Clarkson, KISS, Niall Horan, Katherine Jenkins, Fall Out Boy, The Chainsmokers and Imagine Dragons.
Available on smartphones and VR headsets, the MelodyVR app can be downloaded at on.melodyvr.com/App
