Heathers the Musical: Original West End Cast Recording is OUT NOW

GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS releases Heathers the Musical: Original West End Cast Recording on CD online and in stores on Today, May 31st. The album is currently available for digital download and streaming. The CD package includes a 44-page booklet with full lyrics, UK production photos, a synopsis, and notes from the original film director as well as songwriters Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy. To stream or download the album, please visit ghostlightrecords.lnk.to/heathers-west-end

Based on last year’s UK production starring Carrie Hope Fletcher and Jamie Muscato, this album continues an exciting journey which took Heathers from the 1988 cult classic film, to a landmark New York stage production in 2014. That led to its premiere cast album, which became a viral hit and went on to become the best-selling non-Broadway American cast recording of the decade. The award-winning writing team Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde, Bat Boy) and Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness, “Desperate Housewives”) joined forces with producer Michael Croiter (Heathers: The Musical (World Premiere Cast Recording), Matilda, Groundhog Day), along with the original London cast, at Livingston Studios and Abbey Road Studios, to recreate the incredible on-stage performance, which you can now relive at home.

The album includes three previously unreleased new songs written for the show, including the album’s first single, “I Say No,” “Never Shut Up Again,” and “You’re Welcome,” which replaces “Blue” on the World Premiere Cast Recording.

Writers Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy said, “We’ve made significant revisions to Heathers since the first album came out in 2014. This is the first time the definitive version of the show has been recorded and getting to make a permanent record of this production is the icing on the cake. ‘I Say No’ is an emancipation anthem in which Veronica cuts ties with her homicidal boyfriend. Andrew Lloyd Webber, one of our lead producers, suggested we give her an eleven o’clock number to establish her moral clarity by firmly articulating the idea that that violence is never a solution to the injustices of high school.”

“On the original cast recording, Heather Duke was the only Heather that didn’t have a full-length song, so when we were asked to re-work the show for London, adding this song was the top of our to-do list. ‘Never Shut Up Again’ dramatizes this huge emotional moment for the character, as a girl with justifiable resentments and grievances finally achieves power, only to become even more cruel and brutal than her predecessor.”

“The song ‘You’re Welcome’ shows Veronica’s point of view and gives her a chance to triumph over her tormentors in a way that ‘Blue’ did not. The decision to change the song was made because ‘Blue’ sent a message that wasn’t intended — that Veronica, cornered by two drunk, entitled, fairly violent football players, still wasn’t in any real danger, which sent a signal to the audience that this isn’t an important moment. Although American productions of Heathers have been performing ‘You’re Welcome’ for some time now, this is the first time it’s been recorded.”

Carrie Hope Fletcher (Veronica) is joined by Original London Cast members Jodie Steele (Chandler), T’Shan Williams (Duke) and Sophie Isaacs (McNamara), alongside Jamie Muscato as rebellious transfer student Jason Dean (JD), Christopher Chung (Kurt Kelly), Dominic Andersen (Ram Sweeney), Jenny O’Leary (Martha Dunnstock), Rebecca Lock (Ms. Flemming), Jon Boydon (Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Day/Principal Gowan), Alex James-Hatton (Officer Milner), Charlotte Jaconelli (Stoner Chick), Lauren Drew (New Wave Girl), Olivia Moore (Young Republicanette), Nathan Amzi (Ram’s Day/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper), Brandon Lee Sears (Preppy Stud), Merryl Ansah (Drama Club Drama Queen), and John Lumsden (Hipster Dork), who are all featured on the album.

Carrie Hope Fletcher, who plays the part of Veronica Sawyer, made famous by Winona Ryder, says: “Being part of an original cast recording is exciting in itself. When it’s for a show you’ve been a fan of for years and have grown to love even more since being a part of it, it feels incredibly special. I hope the message of kindness that Heathers ultimately sends is spread even further with this recording!”

Kurt Deutsch, founder of Ghostlight Records, said “I am thrilled to be working with the Heathers UK family and being reunited with Larry and Kevin again after recording Legally Blonde and Reefer Madness. Heathers is great fun and we’re happy to be able to preserve the West End Cast Recording.”

Conversation with Nick Cave- North American Dates Announced

Following a short debut run on the East coast early last year, Nick Cave brings his evenings of talk and music back to North America for a full tour.

Having recently taken this special show to sold out venues in Australia & New Zealand, and with a sell out tour of the UK and Europe to come this Spring, Cave will return to North America in the Fall. During this series of music and open discussion events, he will take questions direct from the audience on all manner of subjects and perform some of his most beloved songs on piano.

Described by Cave as “an exercise in connectivity”, no subject is sacred and audiences are encouraged to be bold and challenging, confrontational and unafraid.

The relationship between Cave and his audience has always been open and intense, but deepened during his recent shows with the Bad Seeds, inspiring these unconventional and unique evenings of unfiltered, unscripted and unmoderated Q&A.

I thought that a direct conversation with the audience might be valuable – in the recent live shows we have all shown a kind of willingness to open up.Nick Cave

“Between stark, gorgeous performances of key songs like ‘Skeleton Tree’, ‘The Mercy Seat’ and ‘God Is In The House’, Cave was wry, genial and funny as hell.” Billboard

“This is a striking turnaround when you’re used to seeing icons in all their bombast and mythos. Here, you are getting them unmediated by journalists, you are getting them in an unfiltered and unedited form, you are getting them in a human state without the guise of stardom in full-force.” Stereogum

“Watching a legend in command of an audience, never quite knowing what would happen next, was a genuine thrill.” Sydney Morning Herald

“A complete dismantling of the barriers put in place thanks to his often mysterious image…

STAGE ENTERTAINMENT AND GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS PRESENT “THE HUNTER”

STAGE ENTERTAINMENT AND GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS PRESENT “THE HUNTER” SECOND SINGLE FROM UPCOMING ORIGINAL LONDON CAST ALBUM “TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL”

STAGE ENTERTAINMENT and GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS announce the release of the second single “The Hunter” featuring Kobna Holdbrook-Smith who plays Ike Turner on the upcoming TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL Original London Cast Recording available to stream and download HERE now.  The full album is now available for pre-order and is scheduled to be released for digital download and streaming on Friday, March 29. A physical CD is planned for release later this spring. Customers who pre-order the digital album will immediately receive a download of “The Hunter” along with the first single “River Deep – Mountain High. To pre-order or pre-save the album, please visit HERE
TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL’s Arrangements, Additional Music and Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck says, “The Hunter was originally recorded by Ike and Tina Turner at the end of the 1960s and saw Tina’s first R&B Vocal Performance Grammy nomination. Ike Turner was a music revolutionary, considered by some, to be the father of rock n roll. In TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL we repositioned the song to be performed by Ike Turner (Kobna Holdbrook-Smith) and The Kings of Rhythm live at Club Manhattan in St. Louis in the 1950s, show-casing Ike’s musical genius and his role in creating the sound of tomorrow. When recording, the idea was to give this song a vintage quality but as though it had never been heard before, the listener is thrust back in time, into the raw energy of an early rock and roll gig, as if witnesses at the birth of the music revolution. Like our “River Deep-Mountain High” recording, it’s very much about feeling you are in the room with the music, Kobna, Adrienne, the band and having that visceral connection to it.”

The album was recorded in February 2019 at Angel Studios and produced by Nicholas Skilbeck and Ghostlight Records founder, Kurt Deutsch, and co-produced by Tom Kelly.

FIRST SINGLE FROM UPCOMING TINA TURNER MUSICAL ANNOUNCED

The first single from the upcoming TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL cast album is released today, to download and stream, by the Producers of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical and Ghostlight Records (5 February 2019) featuring Adrienne Warren performing the iconic song River Deep – Mountain High. Warren, who has played the role in the hit West End production since its world premiere, is featured on an accompanying music video of the single also released today. Click here to download and stream the single and here to watch the music video.

Tina Turner famously recorded River Deep – Mountain High in 1966, produced by Phil Spector as his ground-breaking masterpiece using his trademark Wall of Sound music technique. Turner would later recall, “I must have sung that 500,000 times. I was drenched with sweat. I had to take my shirt off and stand there in my bra to sing”. George Harrison, who worked with Spector when he later produced Let It Be for the Beatles, would later call it ‘a perfect record from start to finish’.

River Deep – Mountain High was recorded in January 2019 at Angel Studios and produced by TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL’s Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck.

Tina Turner said: “At that very difficult time in my life, recording this song opened my eyes to possibilities. I felt liberated, excited, ready to challenge myself vocally. River Deep – Mountain High introduced me to the way I wanted to sing. I am thrilled that Adrienne has picked up the mantle and not only risen to the challenge but made this moment one of my very favourites in the musical. It is so right that this is the first single to be released from our cast album. She makes me very proud”.

Tali Pelman, Producer, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical said: ”River Deep – Mountain High is a pivotal moment in the musical where Tina finds her voice as a solo artist. It was a turning point for Tina personally and is an epic moment in our show. It demands not only an extraordinary vocal talent but immense passion and fearlessness. To hear and watch Adrienne perform this song night after night is electrifying, and I am thrilled to have it captured here.”

Kurt Deutsch, Founder of Ghostlight Records said: “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical has taken London by storm and, starting with this single, the world will get to hear what everyone has been talking about. Tina Turner is a music icon and Ghostlight Records is proud to create a cast album of this triumphant musical, its magnificent songs, and of course the star-making performance of leading lady Adrienne Warren.”

Last month over 200,000 new tickets were released for sale for TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL, the show based on the life of legendary artist Tina Turner, with bookings now being taken at the Aldwych Theatre to Saturday 21 December 2019.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL is choreographed by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.

The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in April 2018 in London and subsequently has broken all Box Office records at the Aldwych Theatre. Next month, the German premiere of TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL begins performances at the Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg and the musical will have its Broadway premiere in Autumn 2019.

Bat Out Of Hell Announces Sing-a-Long performances

The producers of Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical are delighted to announce five special performances when the audience will be able to sing along with the cast to the classic hits.  These performances will take place on Tuesday 28 August, Tuesday 25 September, Wednesday 31 October, Tuesday 27 November and Monday 31 December.  On Halloween (31 October) and New Year’s Eve (31 December), the audiences will also have the option to come dressed as their favourite character from the show or from one of Meat Loaf’s iconic videos.  The best dressed audience member on each night will go home that evening with a Bat Out Hell – The Musical poster signed by Meat Loaf himself.

The show is providing a surtitle screen that will allow everyone who wants to, to sing along with the show.

Nick Evans, the Associate Director of the London and German productions, said, “Bat Out of Hell – The Musical has brought the legendary music of Jim Steinman to the heart of the West End.  It’s become clear just how much these songs mean to people.  Our Singalong Nights will be a celebration of that; a chance for our energetic, passionate audiences to be a step closer to our talented cast.  These unique performances promise to become very sought after ….a night at the theatre, a party and a rock concert all in one!”

The winner of the Evening Standard Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical 2017 began previews at the Dominion Theatre on Monday 2 April, with a gala performance on 19 April 2018.  It is now booking through to 5 January 2019.

Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical wowed critics and public alike when it played limited seasons at Manchester Opera House, London Coliseum and Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre in 2017, and has been seen by over 650,000 people to date.  A new production opens in Toronto for a three-week engagement this autumn as the first stop in a multi-city North American tour.

In April 2018, Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical announced a wide-ranging global partnership to support the Invictus Games Foundation, the governing body of the Invictus Games, a global sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans.

Bat Out Of Hell became one of the best-selling albums in history, selling over 50 million copies worldwide.  16 years later, Steinman scored again with Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell, which contained the massive hit I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That).

For the stage musical, the legendary and award-winning Jim Steinman has incorporated iconic songs from the Bat Out Of Hell albums, including You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth, Bat Out Of Hell, I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) and Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, as well as two previously unreleased songs, What Part of My Body Hurts the Most and Not Allowed to Love.

Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical is a romantic adventure about rebellious youth and passionate love, set against the backdrop of a post-cataclysmic city adrift from the mainland.  Strat, the forever young leader of The Lost, has fallen for Raven, daughter of Falco, the tyrannical, ruler of Obsidian.

It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights…..

The Muppets announce their most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetational, full-length live show for the first time ever in Europe!

Inspired by their hit 1980s variety TV show The Muppet Show, this magical event will be headlined by Kermit The Frog, leading an all-star cast of pigs, bears and whatevers in….

The Muppets Take The O2

Live on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 July, The Muppets will be lighting up The O2 for 2 evenings and 1 matinee, so everyone can share in the mayhem, the music and laughter of a one-of-a-kind live Muppet performance!

Tickets go on sale on 9am on Wednesday February 28th HERE

Following a hugely successful trio of sell-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl last year, this exclusive European show is the first time The Muppets have ever performed their full live extravaganza outside of the USA.  The O2 will become a place where Muppets and humans can come together to share a special connection.

“We’re thrilled to bring this first time ever live performance to all our fans in the UK,” says Kermit, “There’ll be music, comedy, incredible surprises, plus total and complete chaos. In other words: It’s the Muppets! Yaaaay!

“We’ve wanted to do a show like this for a long time, and now—after finally getting all Miss Piggy’s luggage through customs — we have the chance to appear live at The O2 arena!”

Miss Piggy adds, “I can’t wait to be there to entertain, astonish, dazzle and otherwise gobsmack all moi’s fabulous fans! Wear socks, sweetie, cause I’m gonna knock ‘em off.  I will amaze everyone with this first-ever live performance….and, of course, for the official renaming of ‘The MOI 2’ arena.”

Long time Muppet watchers and critics, Statler & Waldorf also have a view:
STATLER: “This is gonna be the ultimate  ‘Don’t Miss It’ event….”
WALDORF: “Yeah, if you don’t go to it, you won’t miss it.”

Kermit and the ultimate diva herself – Miss Piggy will be joined by very special celebrity guests for musical performances, sketches and more. Highlights of the show include the fabulous Miss Piggy in a show-stopping musical extravaganza, a rocking musical jam by The Muppets’ legendary house band Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, with legendary drummer Animal.  Plus the debut of all-new original chapters of those classic Muppet Show sketches – Pigs in Space, Veterinarian’s Hospital and Muppet Labs and many, many more extraordinary surprises.

To celebrate this special weekend of Muppet fun, The O2 will be rolling out the green carpet for Muppet movies, street food, live music, best costume competitions and a whole host of celebrations for Piggy, Kermit and the gang.

Since 1965, Kermit the Frog and The Muppets have been entertaining the world. In movies, on television, on the internet, and now live on stage, The Muppets have done just what they set out to do: sing, dance and make people happy.

Under the often times steady, but frequently frantic leadership of Kermit the Frog, The Muppets have made eight theatrical motion pictures, countless television specials and appearances and, of course, that international mahna-mahna…. excuse us, we mean “phenomena”….The Muppet Show.

With a cast of characters headlined by the inimitable, yet exasperating Miss Piggy, the hilarious Fozzie Bear, the inexplicable Great Gonzo and the extremely-loud Animal, The Muppets remain as beloved and befuddling entertaining as ever. So, please stop reading this — because if you’re here then you probably already know all this stuff – and join the aforementioned entertainers – plus Sam Eagle, The Swedish Chef, Pepé the King Prawn, Lew Zealand, Rowlf and so many more! It’s time to get things started. This is what we call The Muppets Take The O2.

And while this is the first ever live show for The Muppets in London, they are honorary citizens of the UK’s capital….

  • The Muppet Show – their original 1976 TV show – was filmed at Elstree Studios, London
  • In their second feature film The Great Muppet Caper (1981), The Muppets must travel to London to stop a jewel heist…..
  • In 1992, their fourth film, The Muppet Christmas Carol, was an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic book and is based in London. This film starred possibly one of London’s most famous sons – Sir Michael Caine
  • Jim Henson’s Creature Shop which created some of world’s most memorable characters and was a fundamental part of films like The Muppet Christmas Carol was based in Hampstead and then Camden in North London until 2005
  • Muppets Most Wanted, their most recent film starring Ricky Gervais, ends with a heist at the Tower of London. London was also the backdrop to much of the film with buildings like Holborn’s Freemasons’ Hall doubling as a Spanish art gallery

“A force to be reckoned with” – MUSICAL THEATRE REVIEW

“Expect big, BIG voices and many a sing-a-long moments  – OFFICIAL CHARTS

Each of the Leading Ladies are accomplished stars of stage, music and screen in their own right.

Amber Riley – already a globally-renowned star from her six-year stint in the hit TV musical series “Glee” – made her transformation into a bonafide theatre star in November last year with her West End debut. Her portrayal of Effie White in “Dreamgirls” earned her Olivier and What’s On Stage awards for Best Actress in a Musical this year. Amber also has a Screen Actors Guild Award for her portrayal of Mercedes Jones in “Glee” and has starred in stage productions of “Hair” and “Cotton Club Parade”.

Beverley Knight, Britain’s Queen of Soul is a three-time MOBO Award-winning recording artist with platinum and gold-selling albums under her belt. Over the past four years, Beverley has locked down the West End with headlining roles in “The Bodyguard”, “Memphis The Musical” – which earned her an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in A Musical in 2015 – and “Cats”, playing Grizabella. Beverley made her journey back to Memphis last year to record her eighth studio album “Soulsville”, which went straight into the Top 10 of the album charts last summer and celebrates the sounds and legacy of the city that gave us music greats like Al Green and Aretha Franklin.

Cassidy Janson is no stranger to the West End having recently wrapped her glorious two-year stint playing Carole King in the Olivier, Tony and Grammy award-winning musical based on her life: “Beautiful”. The leading role also earned Cassidy a chance to duet with Carole King on stage at the legendary songsmith’s sold-out show at British Summer Time Hyde Park in 2016. Prior to that, Cassidy had played the iconic Elphaba with the original London cast of “Wicked”.
