HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS TO PUBLISH DEBBIE HARRY’S MEMOIR, FACE IT

HarperCollins Publishers has announced today plans to publish FACE IT, a memoir from Blondie front woman and cultural icon, Debbie Harry. HarperNonFiction will publish alongside Dey Street Books, HarperCollins in the US, on the 1st October.

FACE IT is an arresting mix of visceral storytelling and stunning visuals that reflects the complexity of its subject. In her distinctive voice, Debbie Harry recreates the downtown scene of 1970s New York City, where she, with Blondie, played alongside everyone from The Ramones, Television, Talking Heads, Iggy Pop and David Bowie. With all the grit, grime and glory recounted in intimate detail, FACE IT takes readers from the New York underground to global superstardom and the creation of some of the most beloved pop songs of all-time.

FACE IT offers a full and robust portrait of a cultural trailblazer who has spent decades pushing creative boundaries in a variety of media. From her collaborations with artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Marina Abramovic, and H.R. Giger, to her extensive acting career in over thirty films, Debbie Harry has constantly sought to elevate and deliver counter-culture to the masses.  In conjunction with her artistic work, Debbie has also been a tireless activist on behalf of environmental causes and the LGBTQ community, giving voice to some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Debbie Harry is undeniably an icon as well as an iconoclast, and in FACE IT, she shares the breadth of her fascinating life and career, with never-before seen personal images, brilliantly curated fan-art, and memories from the highs and lows of her life as a pioneering feminist, and muse to generations of fans and artists.
Dey Street Books VP, Editorial Director Carrie Thornton negotiated the deal with 10th Street Entertainment. Ed Faulkner and Zoe Berville will oversee the UK publication. FACE IT is written in collaboration with critically acclaimed journalist and author, Sylvie Simmons, based on a series of recent exclusive personal interviews, and also includes original essays by Debbie Harry.

Debbie Harry says: “I didn’t want to, but I did. There are many more stories for me to tell; some funny, some scary, some warm, some chill to the bone and if FACE IT appeals to people then I will get to telling more of the anecdotal bits of the story of Blondie-like the time I met Rita Hayworth and Penny Singleton backstage at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. This book is biographical and covers a lot of years. I know there will be questions asked because in putting this together, I realized I have led a very full life and couldn’t possibly cover everything in just one volume. I’m prepared for the best and the worst comments, much like when I have released an album or done a big show. I don’t have a thick skin, but I do have a pretty good sense of humor.”

Ed Faulkner says: “It is the most immense privilege to be publishing Debbie Harry’s extraordinary memoir at HarperNonFiction. Hers is the voice of a generation, with resonance as powerful now as it was forty years ago, and FACE IT is the honest, powerful story of a true icon.”

Carrie Thornton says: “It has been one of the greatest thrills of my career to edit Debbie Harry, an artist who is so multi-dimensional, fascinating and supremely talented. FACE ITis the rare memoir that gets at the qualities of its subject in the most visceral and honest way, while being compelling, exciting and gorgeous at the same time.”

REWIND FESTIVAL ROLLS OUT BIGGEST EVER, STAR-STUDDED COMEDY LINE-UP

REWIND FESTIVAL ROLLS OUT BIGGEST EVER, STAR-STUDDED COMEDY LINE-UP

After a knock-out reaction to last year’s programming, Rewind is rolling out their biggest comedy line-up yet with some of the best-loved names in the game, who will all be performing at the festival for the first time. These giants in stand-up are sure to make the Forever Stage an unmissable destination, complementing the world class artists on the main stage like Bryan Ferry, Foreigner, Michael Bolton, Four Tops, Thin Lizzy and Gloria Gaynor.

Katt Lingard, Rewind Festival’s Event Manager, said: “We were blown away by the audience reaction to our comedians last year. At every festival, the Forever Stage was completely packed out with people queuing up for some laughs. We’ve added even more comedians to the bill this year, and we can’t wait to give them an incredible Rewind welcome this summer!”

A regular at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Phill Jupitus, will be headlining Rewind Scotland’s comedy roster on Saturday 20 July. The stand-up comedian and performance poet known for his alter ego Porky The Poet, Phill started his performing career in 1984 supporting Billy Bragg, The Style Council and The Housemartins. Aside from his long-running role as team captain on BBC Two’s pop quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Phill has also appeared on 8 Out of Ten Cats, Would I Lie to You and Pointless Celebrities. He returned to live stand-up comedy in 2017 with tours around the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Joining Phill is Emmanuel Sonubi. The North London comic may have only been on the circuit for what feels like five minutes but he’s already gaining quite a reputation for himself as one to watch out for. Hailed by Russell Kane as “a new talent at the door of stand-up…and he’s definitely coming in”, Emmanuel is sure to win some new fans at Rewind as he takes the Forever Stage on both Saturday and Sunday.

Perth-born Fred MacAulay will no doubt be a crowd favourite at Scone Palace. Having presented the very funny and eventful MacAulay and Co. on BBC Radio Scotland for almost 18 years and with a string of TV appearances under his belt, Fred’s on-air witticisms and on-screen reputation are the product of years of experience in the live circuit – including a stint as the first ever Scottish compere at the Comedy Store in London.

Jimeoin, hailed as one of the hottest comics of his generation, headlines Rewind Scotland’s comedy line up on Sunday 21 July. The English-born stand-up comedian and actor made his debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1993 and since then has gained a huge international following having performed at some of the world’s biggest arts festivals.

Dubbed ‘the future of Scottish comedy’, Christopher Macarthur Boyd will also be taking the Forever Stage. The Glaswegian is a three-time Scottish Comedian of The Year finalist and has performed internationally everywhere from Canada to Australia. Christopher brought his debut show ‘Home Sweet Home’ to the Edinburgh Fringe last year to great acclaim.

Russell Kane is headlining Rewind North’s killer comedy line up. The multi-award winning comedian, author and actor, known for his critically-acclaimed sold out shows around the world, will be hitting the Forever Stage on Saturday 3 August. Russell was nominated four times for prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Awards before winning Best Show in 2010. He then went onto make history as the first comedian to win both the Edinburgh Award and Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Barry Award in one year.

Joining Russell is in-demand stand-up comic Justin Moorhouse, whose cheeky and irreverent style has made him a big hit with audiences all over the UK and internationally. Justin’s television appearances include Live At The Apollo, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled and Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights.

Andre Vincent is opening the comedy festivities at Rewind North – sure to set the tone for a big weekend of laughs and great entertainment all around. Andre is best loved for his situational comedy, often musing about health matters including his experiences with diabetes, cancer and kidney surgery. His television appearances include ‘Andre Vincent – Hurrah for Cancer’ on BBC3, The Late Edition on BBC4 and Big City on Central.

Lost Voice Guy (aka Lee Ridley)may not be able to talk but he definitely has something to say and his comedy will leave audiences speechless as he headlines Rewind North’s comedy line up on Sunday 4 August. The Newcastle funny man won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2014 before going on to take the crown on Britain’s Got Talent last year, endearing him to millions of new fans. He is currently playing sold-out shows on a nationwide tour. He brought his talents to a bigger stage across the Atlantic earlier this year after appearing on America’s Got Talent: The Champions. Also joining Lost Voice Guy on the final night of Rewind North is Andre Vincent and Justin Moorhouse.

Following his highly memorable performance on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here in 2017, Joel Dommett is hotter than ever. The affable comedian will be headlining Rewind South’s comedy line up on Saturday 17 August. Adding to his increasing array of television credits, Joel has also co-starred in the hugely successful Impractical Jokers on BBC3 as well as Comedy Central’s Joel and Nish vs The World. This year, alongside touring his live show, Joel released his first book ‘It’s Not Me, It’s Them’.

The Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue is sure to add a dash of out-of-the-box entertainment to the night. Expect the unexpected when the super silly and unsavoury twosome hit the Forever Stage in a blast of music and lightning fast choreography.

Joining this memorable night of comedy at Rewind South is multi-award winning film actor and respected stand-up comic Dave Johns. Dave is best known for playing the lead role in Ken Loach’s Palme D’or-winning feature film I, Daniel Blake, for which he won the 2016 BIFA for Best Actor. As a comedian, Dave has appeared on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Pointless Celebrities.

The sharply dressed, well-spoken and disparagingly camp son of working class Bromley, Tom Allen, is headlining Rewind South’s Sunday comedy roster. Best known for his sharp, acerbic wit and riotous storytelling, Tom has performed at sold-out shows all over the world. In the past year, he starred in BBC One’s Wedding Day Winners, Ready or Not, BBC Two’s Mock of The Week, Live at The Apollo, Extra Slice, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Comedy Central’s Roast Battle to name a few.

Also joining Tom on the final night of this year’s Rewind Festival is The Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue and Angela Barnes, whose witty worldview has catapulted her onto numerous radio and television shows including appearances on Mock of The Week and Live At The Apollo. She took the crown at the 2011 BBC New Comedy Award and was praised by Evening Standard as “the best mainstream female comedian since Sarah Millican”.

This year, organisers promise to take Rewind to new heights with a jam-packed programme of comedy, cinema and interactive fun to thrill their audiences up and down the country. Stay tuned for more additions! For more information – visit rewindfestival.com.

New Names Added To Bring Me The Horizon All Points East Festival Date

All Points East have added four acts to the previously announced Bring Me The Horizon headline show.  The band who this week achieved chart success, scoring their first number one album with new record ‘Amo’ have curated their own day at the Festival to be held in London’s Victoria Park. Architects, While She Sleeps, Employed To Serve and Alice Glass have all been added.

Commented Bring Me The Horizon “We are extremely excited to announce the next round of acts on our very special day at all points east festival. Many of the bands are great friends of ours and we can’t wait to come together to play at Victoria Park.”

Brighton-based metallers Architects released their most recent record, late 2018’s Holy Hell, to phenomenal response. The album, which addresses the recent passing of guitarist Tom Searle, is wracked with grief, passion and a strong sense of mortality and was crowned as the group’s “finest album to date,” by the NME. Having previously performed at some of rock’s biggest events and stunning audiences at shows worldwide, both as headliners and alongside the likes of Parkway Drive and Enter Shikari, Architects have curated a live set that you wouldn’t want to miss.

Formed in 2006, While She Sleeps are no strangers to the stage. Having performed at Warped Tour, Rock im Park, UNIFY and Reading & Leeds among others, the group have rendered themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Their debut record, 2010’s ‘The North Stands For Nothing’ received critical acclaim from the likes of Kerrang and Metal Hammer, and the group have since gone on to release two more records. Their most recent offering, 2017’s ‘You Are We’, was released independently with the help of crowd funding from their fans, with the record itself described as “an album that bristles with hooks, crackles with power and almost overflows with passion.” Now, the group are set to bring that same passion and power to the stage at Victoria Park, delivering a set that will have audiences head-banging in unison. Their new single ‘THE GUILTY PARTY’ was just released and brand new album ‘SO WHAT?’ arrives 1st March. Sean Long from the band commented “The line up is clearly next level. We can’t wait to bring the Sleeps show to Victoria Park and prove we’re meant to be there.”

Feral hard-core quintet Employed To Serve have made it their mission to decimate every venue the UK and Europe throws in their path. Known for their relentless live charge, the group have made appearances at Damnation Festival, Incubate Festival, and have toured with the likes of Rolo Tomassi, Milk Teeth and Black Peaks. Their 2017 album ‘The Warmth of a Dying Sun’ was crowned Kerrang’s album of the year and boasted a heavier and darker feel than its predecessor ‘Greyer Than You Remember’, firmly establishing the groups sound and proving to be their strongest release yet.

Canadian singer and songwriter Alice Glass embarked on her solo career in 2014, breaking away from her co-founding position in electronic band Crystal Castles. Her debut solo single, ‘Stillbirth’, was released to increase awareness of domestic and sexual abuse, with all proceeds from the tracks revenue going to aid abuse victims. Following the 2017 release of her debut self-titled EP, Glass toured with Marilyn Manson. Glass has since released a string of singles and has grown to be known for her dedication to live performance, performing five months worth of shows on crutches after straining an already-injured ankle.

Taking place during All Points East’s second weekend Friday 31st May 2019, Bring Me The Horizon will be bringing an exciting diverse line-up to Victoria Park. The show will be the band’s first-ever festival headlining set and their only UK headline show for 2019.

Formed in Sheffield in 2004, Bring Me The Horizon have long been widely regarded as one of the most forward thinking heavy bands in the UK. The band released their sixth studio album ‘Amo’ on 25th January, which went straight into their first number one.

Genre defying in nature, the band have been labelled as everything from deathcore to pop-rock.  Even hailed for their electronic elements, they have been consistently on the rise since their formation, never comfortable staying in the same space for long and constantly evolving with each step of their career.

From playing the Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra to two huge arena shows at The O2 this is a band that have always thrived on taking things up a gear. Expect big things for their first outdoor festival headline and an eclectic supporting line-up throughout the day.

Special guests come from independent hip-hop heroes Run The Jewels, the US duo that exploded onto the scene in 2013 to sudden critical acclaim. They released breakthrough album RTJ3, last year winning over UK audiences with a dynamic performance at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage introduced by none other than Leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn as well as a memorable performance at Finsbury Park this year. They’ve even broken into Hollywood with their latest single, “Lets Go (The Royal We)”, included in the soundtrack for Marvel’s latest blockbuster Venom and had a Grammy nomination with Danger Mouse-produced single “Chase Me”, included on the Baby Driver soundtrack.

English alternative rock band Nothing But Thieves, have proved themselves a formidable live act touring huge arena shows with Muse and Twenty-One Pilots and selling out two consecutive nights at The Roundhouse in their own right and playing their biggest ever headline show to date at Alexandra Palace last month. They have had two official top 10s with both their studio albums.  2015’s self-titled debut album went straight in at #7 on the Official Albums Chart and last year’s follow up ‘Broken Machine’ charted at #2.

Brit-nominated IDLES, have created the soundtrack for our times with their first two albums, released only a year apart – 2017’s ‘Brutalism’ and 2018’s second album ‘Joy As An Act Of Resistance’. The band have gained attention with their hard-hitting live performances and witty but dark lyrical content, creating punk anthems with intelligent lyrics about toxic masculinity, depression and austerity, music that is so cathartic and important it should be prescribed on the NHS.

Every artist playing on this day have proved themselves to have a tenacity and hunger setting them apart from the over saturated music scene but Scarlxrd holds the record, releasing six albums in the space of just two years. Blending trap with heavy metal and creating unusual and distinctive music and an aesthetic that takes inspiration from Japanese culture Scarlxrd truly sets himself apart from everything else out there and will kick off this energetic day – unrestricted by genre but crafted out of the most exciting modern acts of today.

Formed in Brighton in 2015, alt pop quartet Yonaka have already rocked the boat with their hip-hop fused head-banging rock. Their Grime-influenced DIY ethos and unequalled ambition has seen them catapulted from small venues at Brighton’s The Great Escape festival to signing with Atlantic Records and making waves supporting Bring Me The Horizon across the UK and Europe. Front woman Theresa Jarvis’s ferocious intensity, teamed with heavy riffs and punchy basslines, truly sets Yonaka aside as a tour de force, branding them as one of the most exciting new names in alternative music.

Jim King, Senior Vice President, AEG Presents commented “We are beyond thrilled to be able to welcome Bring Me The Horizon to the East Stage next year for their long overdue first festival headliner set. The band and the festival have curated an unbelievable day of music. May 31st is going to be an unforgettable night for Victoria Park.”

East London’s beautiful Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets also hosted a hugely popular 4-day community focused midweek event last year. Kicking off on the second Bank Holiday Monday, In The Neighbourhood is set to return across the half term week for 2019. Featuring free access to the All Points East site, In The Neighbourhood will host a vibrant programme of activities and entertainment, in collaboration with the local community, businesses, organisations and suppliers. From free Outdoor Cinema, Live Music & Entertainment, Street Food to Pop Up Bars, Theatre, Arts, Sports & Wellbeing, Children’s Activities and much more.

A truly unique festival environment, an excellence in production, facilities, hospitality and customer service unlike anything seen before in Victoria Park will underpin the entirety of the 10 day event. From the team behind events such as Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park, and the world’s number one venue The O2, the highest standards will be stamped across every aspect of the event.

The winner of the Evening Standard Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical 2017 began previews at the Dominion Theatre on Monday 2 April, with a gala performance on 19 April 2018.  It is now booking through to 5 January 2019.

Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical wowed critics and public alike when it played limited seasons at Manchester Opera House, London Coliseum and Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre in 2017, and has been seen by over 650,000 people to date.  A new production opens in Toronto for a three-week engagement this autumn as the first stop in a multi-city North American tour.

Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical is a romantic adventure about rebellious youth and passionate love, set against the backdrop of a post-cataclysmic city adrift from the mainland.  Strat, the forever young leader of The Lost, has fallen for Raven, daughter of Falco, the tyrannical, ruler of Obsidian.

Pride of Sport 2016

This year’s star-studded awards, hosted by Ben Shephard, took place at Grosvenor House in London. The biggest names in sport came from all across the UK to celebrate the most phenomenal people in British sport. Olympian sprinter Iwan Thomas reported live via Facebook from the red carpet, capturing all the excitement of the evening.

The winners included the amazing Denham Elvin, a cycling enthusiast who overcame homelessness and now facilitates his favourite sport on drug-riddled estates around the south coast. The TSB Community Partnership Award was won by the Flamingo Chicks, a club for disabled children to experience the magic of dance while also providing support for their parents and carers. Equestrian Abdul Kareem Musa Adam was also honoured with an award. Having lost his entire family in Sudan and escaping Colonel Gaddafi’s child army, Abdulla now lives in the UK and is battling his post-traumatic stress disorder through his love of horse riding. Capping an incredible year, the mighty Team GB and Paralympic GB athletes picked up a prize for their outstanding performances in Rio.

All winners received their awards to rapturous applause, with audiences at Grosvenor House left feeling moved but also motivated by the incredible stories of the amazing athletes and sports enthusiasts.

Michelle Linaker, Head of National Events Pride of Sport said; “The Pride of Sport Awards recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to sport and show how important sport is to our communities and daily life. There have been so many amazing stories and I’d like to pay tribute to all our nominees. Our winners this year are so inspiring and it’s our honour to be able to pay tribute to them through the awards.”

Paul Pester, Chief Executive Officer of TSB, said; “For many, sport is about being the best, but for me it’s about bringing out the best in people. Being a good sportsperson doesn’t mean being number one. It means living and breathing the values of resilience, fair play and working together in partnership. That’s why TSB is so proud to be a part of Pride of Sport – celebrating ordinary people right across the country doing extraordinary things in their local communities through sport. The winners and indeed all the finalists embody these values to the core alongside their commitment, dedication and sporting skill. They are a source of local pride for their communities and an inspiration to us all, right across Britain.”
