All Points East announce VILLAGERS, THE STAVES, MARIKA HACKMAN, ALAN POWER & more
MUMFORD & SONS BRING THEIR GENTLEMEN OF THE ROAD EVENT TO VICTORIA PARK IN A COLLABORATION WITH ALL POINTS EAST
All Points East and Gentlemen of the Road have announced another exciting wave of new acts supporting Mumford & Sons’ UK festival exclusive in Victoria Park on Saturday 1st June. The event heralds a truly special collaboration with All Points East and Mumford & Sons’ own Gentlemen of the Road, and today we share a fresh selection of hand-picked support acts by the band.
Villagers are festival staples – and as their bewitching, poignant songs attest, for a very good reason. The Dublin group’s records are held in high esteem as well, with two Mercury Prize nominations and two Ivor Novellos to their name. Their latest album The Art of Pretending to Swim was released in September 2018 to widespread acclaim.
British sisters The Staves consist of Jessica, Camilla and Emily Staveley-Taylor. Renowned across the world for their exquisite harmonies and sublime, folk-informed song craft, this trio also bring with them a wicked sense of humour. As long-term collaborators with Bon Iver and their friends Mumford & Sons, and recent tour support to the like-minded First Aid Kit, The Staves excel on the big stage, and promise to be a real highlight amongst the day’s performers.
Having formed her first band during school, Marika Hackman was clearly destined to be a success. Her dark, melancholy style of folk has bewitched many, and her recent turn towards a much slicker, sassy pop sound evidenced on her new earworm, ‘I’m Not Where You Are’, promises another unmissable set in Victoria Park.
Fast-rising Alan Power’s music is inspired by traditional country, but also includes influence from strands of post punk and experimental styles. He recently released his first musical offering to the world, the four-track Ep 1.
Delilah Montagu is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Hampshire. Influenced by The Smiths, James Blake, Joni Mitchell and Bon Iver among others, she’s been working with some popular names including the likes of Tom Odell, Justin Hayward-Young of The Vaccines, Diplo and Tim Rice-Oxley of Keane to develop a sound that’ll be sure to captivate Victoria Park.
Another new artist worthy of your immediate attention is alt-pop duo from Glasgow, HYYTS who are quickly building momentum as their singular sound attracts more and more attention. The duo have only released a handful of singles so far, and even graced the stage in support of Boy George in their hometown. Alan Power, Delilah Montagu and HYYTS are all playing The Firestone Stage.
Mumford & Sons will also be joined by a host of already announced names: grime pioneer Dizzee Rascal, Texas’s peerless R&B Grammy Award winner Leon Bridges, long-standing indie-rock favourites The Vaccines, and recent BRITs Critics’ Choice winner Sam Fender. The fast-rising Brit Jade Bird, Ireland’s favourite new son Dermot Kennedy, Australian singer Gretta Ray and Canadian dream-pop band Dizzy will also play.
There’s also plenty going on in Victoria Park in between the two weekends. All Points East have recently announced their VAST (and totally FREE) In the Neighbourhood programme, taking place across the Spring Bank Holiday and half term week from Monday 27th to Thursday 30th May. There’ll be four fun-packed days of midweek fun, including an outdoor cinema, local live music and entertainment, irresistible street food, craft beer fair, film screening panels, theatre, sports & wellbeing activities, children’s theatre and much more. Did we mention, ALL of the activities are free!?
