Reverend Al Sharpton Visits London
High profile legendary American activist and campaigner the Reverend Al Sharpton was in London for a brief visit this week. In between meetings he attended a dinner at The Groucho Club arranged by Simon Woolley of The Operations Black Vote organisation on Wednesday evening.
The event was attended by a number of high profile guests including singer Beverley Knight, vocalist Pauline Black from the legendary two-tone group The Selecter, CEO and founder of MOBO Awards Kanya King MBE, and British actor Colin Salmon who starred as Charles Robinson in three James Bond films.
Sharpton, whose career in politics began in the early 70s, has been a consistent defender of his community and supporter of civil rights. He was recently described in the New York Times as the “Martin Luther King of the North.”
Sharpton also has an impeccable showbiz pedigree. He began his career as the tour manager for the incredible James Brown. During that period dealt with Donald Trump who was a promoter at the time. The Reverend went on to become a special advisor to Barack Obama, so doubtless one of the hot topics at the intimate dinner was his take on the current president.
