Joe and Jake head to Eurovision
Joe and Jake have emerged as the UK’s best loved new pop duo, winning the public vote to represent us in front of millions of viewers at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The duo, who met as solo contestants on The Voice UK last year, are positive about the UK’s chances in May.
“We’re really looking forward to going to Stockholm and really showing the rest of the world our track,” said Jake Shakeshaft.
Joe Woolford adds: “We believe that this song can do well. We want the UK to be a credible act this year.”
Joe and Jake performed their uplifting single ‘You’re Not Alone’ live on BBC Four’s Eurovision: You Decide on Friday 26 February. The pair’s entry beat five other hopefuls, racing to the top with the most votes.
The gregarious boys stand united today as the United Kingdom’s promising new pop champs but it was only a year ago that Joe and Jake were rivals on BBC’s popular talent show The Voice UK.
Twenty-one-year old singer Joe Woolford impressed Rita Ora enough for her to champion him round after round on the show, while 20-year old Jake Shakeshaft grew in confidence under the guidance of Grammy Award-winning artist will.i.am. Behind the scenes, true friendship struck up between the pair, united by a deep love for music, Liverpool Football Club and Nandos.
