MORE PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED FOR CLASSIC BRITS 2018

The Classic BRIT Awards 2018 is honoured to announce more incredible performances to complete their line-up for 13th June at the Royal Albert Hall.

In true BRITs tradition, these are world exclusives, once-in-a-lifetime events and never to be forgotten collaborations.

In a Classic BRITs exclusive, mezzo-soprano superstar Katherine Jenkins OBE returns to the stage for her first television performance since the happy news of the birth of her second child. One of Britain’s most popular singers, she was recently crowned the Number 1 selling ‘Classical Music Artist of the Last 25 Years’ by Classic FM.

Katherine will perform the beautiful ‘Never Enough’ from the UK’s biggest selling album of 2018 so far – the runaway success that is the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman.

Also nominated in our new Soundtrack Of The Year category, The Greatest Showman OST has spent an astonishing 11 consecutive weeks at Number 1 on the UK Official Charts – the joint longest run at Number 1 in 30 years, tied with Adele’s ‘21’.

Katherine Jenkins said, “The Classic BRITs have always been a special, memorable and loved event for me and so I’m delighted to have been chosen to return and perform at this year’s awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall. It’s hugely important that we continue to honour and recognise the talent and work of the Classical Music world and I wish all the nominees the best of luck on the night!”

In addition, Classic BRITs will present a celebration of the remarkable career of the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber in what is a landmark year for the great musical theatre legend, including a very special performance by Meghan Picerno, currently starring as Christine in the smash-hit tour of “Love Never Dies”.

Lloyd Webber recently celebrated his 70th birthday and the Classic BRIT Awards is honoured to present this very special performance for this year’s ceremony.

Simply the most successful composer of musicals in history, his repertoire includes some of the world’s most celebrated shows, selling 330 million tickets; ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Cats’, ‘Aspects Of Love’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Evita’, ‘Starlight Express’, ‘The Phantom of The Opera’, ‘School of Rock’ and ‘Love Never Dies’ – to name but a few.

Last year, Lloyd Webber became the only person to equal the record set in 1953 by Rodgers and Hammerstein with four shows running on Broadway concurrently. Two of his shows are currently running in both Broadway and the West End: School Of Rock and The Phantom Of The Opera, in addition to sell out tours across the US of The Phantom Of The OperaSchool of Rock and Love Never Dies, and numerous other productions being enjoyed by audiences across the world.

Beatrice Rana is the classical world’s piano sensation. The 24 year old is one of the most sought after performers on the planet, appearing at every major concert venue and collaborating with the world’s greatest conductors. The Italian’s album of Bach’s Goldberg variations sees her nominated as Female Artist of the Year.

Rana’s next album is due to be released this August as part of the Bernstein Symphonies project with Sir Antonio Pappano and will feature Bernstein’s Symphony No 2 (called “The age of anxiety” for piano). Catch her at the Classic BRIT Awards, a world-class performer with the world at her fingertips.

Alexis Ffrench and Pretty Yende are at the forefront of whole new generation of exciting classical artists and together they make an irresistible and inspirational duo. We showcase a unique collaboration between these supremely talented artists who are lighting up the classical scene.

As one of Britain’s most gifted modern composers and pianists, Ffrench’s love of classical music alongside R&B and the likes of Kendrick Lamar has enabled him to create a sound all his own.  His beautiful, modernist and accessible compositions have seen him rise in the digital music world, attracting over 50 million streams.

Especially for the Classic BRITs, he teams up here with Pretty Yende – one of the most exciting opera voices in the world today, whose story has been likened to a modern fairy tale.

A soprano born in the small town of Piet Retief, South Africa, she was inspired to learn to sing having seen by chance a British Airways advert that featured the ‘Flower Duet’ from the opera Lakmé. She has gone on to grace the great opera stages from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, to Paris Opera and Milan’s La Scala.

We cannot wait to see the results of this exciting collaboration.

In 2003, two of the world’s great operatic voices, Andrea Bocelli and Bryn Terfel performed together at the Awards and this year, they will join together again for us. Already announced as solo performers, this will be an extra special moment.

Tokio Myers will perform with the full Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and is sure to stamp his own style on a classical template, drawing on his Royal College Of Music training and out of this world talent that has taken his career into the stratosphere.

The Classic BRIT Awards returns for 2018 for the first time in 5 years – reformatted and refreshed, exclusively broadcast on ITV and in partnership with Classic FM – to celebrate the growing appeal of classical and music from film, television, theatre and games. Our hosts are musicians and Classic FM presenters Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong.

Dame Vera Lynn has already been announced as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Tokio Myers will be named Classic BRITs Breakthrough Artist Of The Year.

Showcasing the best and brightest of incredible new British talent, the Classic BRIT Awards’ Sound Of Classical Poll is looking for classical artists aged 13-30 and tipped for a great future. The winner will be chosen by an expert panel and revealed at the ceremony in June.

The winner will receive £1000 toward their music tuition or equipment and 4 tickets to the Classic BRIT Awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on 13thJune. Enter at www.classicbrits.co.uk.

Classic BRIT Awards 2018 Official Partners Announced

The Classic BRIT Awards announces the official partners for this year’s ceremony on Wednesday 13th June at the Royal Albert Hall.

Apple Music, Classic FMPPL and Royal Albert Hall are backing the first Classic BRIT Awards in 5 years and all represent the multi-faceted, diverse event it has become. With a commitment to championing classic music in all its forms, each plays a vital role in bringing it to the public and supporting artists. And they are showing their commitment to its future by becoming our official partners in 2018.

Celebrating music from the worlds of classical, film, television, theatre and games, the Classic BRIT Awards return in a year in which sensational new young classical performers have emerged, alongside the world’s biggest soundtracks and huge stars from musical theatre.

And a new audience is discovering classic music via platforms old and new.

As the UK’s biggest classical music radio station and one of the biggest commercial radio stations in the UK, Classic FM is a long-term partner and huge supporter of the Classic BRIT Awards.

With a weekly audience of 5.7 million people, Classic FM has more than one million listeners aged under 35. The station is partnering on the ‘Classic FM Album Of The Year’ Award, voted for by its listeners, and providing significant exposure for the Sound Of Classical Poll – a competition for classical artists aged 13-30 and tipped for a great future. The winner will be chosen by an expert panel and revealed at the ceremony in June, and Classic FM will feature nominees ahead of the ceremony, providing an incredible platform for new classical talent.

Sam Jackson, Classic FM’s managing editor, said: “Like the Classic BRITs, we’re passionate about making classical music accessible and relevant to everyone, so it’s fantastic to be part of this celebration of world-class talent. Supporting emerging artists is particularly important to us, and we’re thrilled to be providing a platform to showcase young performers through the Sound of Classical Poll. We’re very much looking forward to what is set to be a great night.”

Music streaming continues to grow in popularity and has reached scale; classical is no exception. According to the Official Charts Company classical music streams rose 52% in the first 2 months of 2018 alone, surpassing 10 million streams every week except one. Apple Music is home of the world’s most complete catalogue of classical music available to stream and download. We are delighted to have Apple Music as the official digital music service for the Classic BRIT Awards 2018. This year’s Critics’ Choice Award will be in association with Apple Music.

PPL licenses recorded music in the UK when it is played in public (shops, bars, nightclubs, offices etc.) or broadcast (BBC, commercial radio, commercial TV etc.) and ensure that revenue flows back to its performer and record company members.  These include both independent and major record companies, together with performers ranging from emerging grassroots artists through to established session musicians and influential festival headliners.  PPL now has tens of thousands of performer and record company members, many of which will feature in or support the Classic BRIT Awards.

Peter Leathem, Chief Executive Officer commented: “We are pleased to see the return of the Classic BRITs to the historic Royal Albert Hall on 13 June and to sponsor the Breakthrough award, championing the most exciting emerging artists.  The ceremony will champion a diverse range of talent, including many individuals from within our record company and performer community, and we look forward to being part of an event that recognises music from the worlds of classical, film, television, theatre and games.”

The Royal Albert Hall is an iconic venue for music of all kinds but as the home of the BBC Proms, the Love Classical festival, Films in Concert and the Classic BRIT Awards it is synonymous with orchestral music. A uniquely historic venue, it is the perfect backdrop to a glamorous evening.

Lucy Noble, Artistic Director of the Royal Albert Hall, said“It’s a real honour for us to welcome the Classic BRITs back to the Hall next month. We’re committed to making classical music accessible to all, both through high-profile events and Education & Outreach initiatives, and these very special awards do an incredible job of raising the profile of the genre, as well as celebrating some of the most extraordinary artists working today.”

Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive BPI & BRIT Awards, said:  “We value the tremendous support of our Classic BRITs partners – Classic FM, Apple Music, PPL and the Royal Albert Hall as well as our record label members – and thank them for their commitment in helping to bring The Classic BRITs back after a 5-year hiatus.  Their shared passion for classic music in all its diverse and exciting new forms is not only providing support to an extraordinary new wave of talent, it is also helping to broaden the appeal of classic music among the next generation of music fans.”

Hosted by musicians and Classic FM presenters Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong, performers announced so far include the incredible Andrea Bocelli, Britain’s favourite duo Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, opera legend Sir Bryn Terfel and pianist Tokio Myers.

2018 Classic BRITs Nominations Announced

The Classic BRIT Awards 2018 announces nominations for this year, with a new category and recognition for a phenomenally diverse range of incredible artists. 101 year old Dame Vera Lynn leads the accolades with two nominations to add to her Lifetime Achievement Award.

There are multiple nominations for actress and musical theatre star Sheridan Smith after a stunning yearas well as Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, who sold over a million copies of their two blockbuster albums ‘Together’ and ‘Together Again’.

Classic BRIT Awards co-host Alexander Armstrong also receives two nominations and The Greatest Showman, one of the biggest albums on the planet right now, receives recognition in the brand new ‘Soundtrack Of the Year’ category.

Tina Guo represents the new wave of classical artists finding younger audiences via soundtracks and video games and is nominated for Female Artist Of The Year. Last year, she released an album of video game music – ‘Game On!’ – establishing her as the pre-eminent force in a growing genre.

Hans Zimmer, perhaps the Classic BRIT Awards’ most-listened to nominee, garners 3 nominations in the new ‘Soundtrack Of The Year’ category for his work on BBC series ‘Blue Planet II’ (alongside Jacob Shea and David Fleming), and blockbuster films ‘Blade Runner 2049’ (alongside Benjamin Wallfisch)and the extraordinary ‘Dunkirk’. The score received praise for its use of the ‘Shepard Tone’ that Zimmer describes as a ‘musical trick’ used to create ever-increasing intensity.

“The category also includes the phenomenon that is the soundtrack to ‘The Greatest Showman’ movie (the UK’s biggest selling album of 2018 so far).  The album has spent an astonishing 11 consecutive weeks at Number 1 on the UK Official Charts – the joint longest run at Number 1 in 30 years, tied with Adele’s ‘21’.

Olafur Arnalds’ score for hit ITV show ‘Broadchurch – The Final Chapter’, completes the category, recognising a hugely popular genre where the public hears incredible, newly composed music.

Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive BPI & BRIT Awards, said:

“The nominations for this year’s Classic BRIT Awards have captured the essence of classic music in all its exciting and diverse forms. From operatic traditions to contemporary classical and from film and games soundtracks to musicals, all forms of classic music and the artists that bring it to life will be celebrated at this year’s awards. I am also thrilled that British music legend Dame Vera Lynn is honoured as our Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.”

Elsewhere, the nominations continue the theme of extraordinary and varied talent.

With Tina Guo, the Female Artist Of The Year category boasts Dame Vera Lynn, a national treasure whose album ‘Vera Lynn 100’ became the biggest selling album released by a woman in 2017. They are joined by 24 year old classical pianist and phenomenon Beatrice Rana, opera legend Renée Fleming and Sheridan Smith.

In the Male Artist Of The Year category, opera’s leading man, tenor Jonas Kaufmann brings the classical star quality, alongside modern composer Max Richter, famous for his own work on screen and stage alongside his acclaimed recordings. “The pain [Nick Cave]’s voice conveys on [Skeleton Tree] is almost too much to bear, but shared with 6,000 disciples experiencing the same feelings it becomes life af- firming…His shows have become true art. And like all great art it is an experience that will transform you and stay with you for years to come.” Forbes

“The people in the pit felt his breath, had their hands guided to his heart, and were often relied on to hold him from the ground. Near the stage, it was the most baroque hardcore show ever conceived. The audience was part of the show. Everything was interactive.” Consequence Of Sound

Special guests announced to join Michael Bublé

One of the globe’s biggest stars Michael Bublé is returning to the stage this summer for a UK exclusive at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park. Today some very special guests are announced for 13th July – Van Morrison, Bananarama, The Feeling and The Shires.

Multiple-Grammy award winner Van Morrison is a legendary musician, rising to prominence in the mid-60s as lead singer of Northern Irish R&B band Them, with whom he recorded garage rock hit “Gloria”. Morrison went on to release his major solo hit “Brown Eyed Girl”, which remains a rock staple to this day. It is one of the most downloaded and most played songs of the entire 1960s.

Morrison’s solo career blossomed with the success of 1970s Moondance, his first million selling record and staple in ‘greatest albums of all time’ lists.  A string of acclaimed albums throughout the 70s followed, including Tupelo Honey, which produced hit single “Wild Night”, and Saint Dominic’s Preview, released in 1972, which spawned hits such as “Redwood Tree” and “Jackie Wilson Said I’m in Heaven When You Smile.”

In 1993, Morrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and took home the BRIT award for Outstanding Contribution to Music the following year. He received an OBE in 1996 and in 2003 was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Morrison’s whopping 39th solo album You’re Driving Me Crazy is out 27th April, so he’ll be bringing hits new and old to Hyde Park this summer.

Bananarama are essential to the soundtrack of the 80s, with tunes “Shy boy”, “Help”, “It Ain’t What You Do It’s The Way You Do It” and the iconic “Venus”. They wowed fans with their huge reformation last year, performing a UK-wide sold out tour.

A pioneering pop girl group, the trio’s 1987 Wow! spawned one of their biggest UK hits “Love in the First Degree”, and by 2002, Bananarama had sold 40 million records worldwide. The trio (Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward) have since gone on to cement their name in the Guinness World Records as the girl band with the most chart entries in history.

Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey says, “British Summer Time at Hyde Park has become such an important part of the year. To be included in this year’s line up along side so many wonderful acts is just joyous!”

British band The Feeling first broke onto the music scene with “Fill My Little World” in late 2005, which went on to become one of the year’s biggest hits. Celebrating Music from the world of classical, film, television, theatre and games

The Classic BRIT Awards returns for 2018 for the first time in 5 years – reformatted and refreshed, exclusively broadcast on ITV and in partnership with Classic FM – to celebrate the growing appeal of classical and music from film, television, theatre and games.

These musical genres are now enjoyed in more ways than ever before and 2018’s Awards will pay tribute to the brightest and the best, celebrate our classic legends and look firmly to the future.

Announced today for the show on 13th June at the Royal Albert Hall are hosts Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong.  Both are presenters on Classic FM and musicians in their own right and this will be Myleene’s 7th Classic BRIT Awards.  Alexander is welcomed for the first time and is also one of the genre’s most popular acts with 2 top 10 albums to his name.  Apple Music is the official music service for this year’s awards.

The first performers for the Royal Albert Hall event are also announced today, proving that this music gives rise to global stars, national treasures and exciting new talent.

Andrea Bocelli is Classic BRIT Awards’ royalty. The biggest selling classical artist of all time, he has performed for four U.S. presidents, two popes and the Royal Family, as well as at ceremonies for the Olympic Games and the World Cup.  Known for opera and global crossover hits including ‘Time To Say Goodbye’, he recently scored a worldwide Number 1 with Ed Sheeran on the song ‘Perfect Symphony’ and has a very special performance in mind for this year’s ceremony.

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe are two great modern voices who came ‘Together’ for 2016’s best-selling album in the UK, achieving the Christmas Number 1 record.  In 2017, their second album ‘Together Again’ went straight to Number 1 and two sold out arena tours cemented their position as two of Britain’s best loved entertainers and pushed their record sales over 1 million within a year.

The Classic BRIT Awards will welcome back one of our great classical music performers. Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel is a regular star of the world’s most prestigious concert stages and opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; the Metropolitan Opera, New York; Opéra National de Paris; Teatro Alla Scala and Zürich Opera. A Grammy, Classic BRIT and Gramophone Award winner, Sir Bryn received a knighthood for his services to music in 2017.

Tokio Myers is part of a new vanguard of classically trained artists, a supremely talented musician who won Britain’s Got Talent 2017 with his musical mash-ups incorporating classical music elements.  State school educated and trained at the Royal College of Music, he is proof that this music is open to everyone.

The UK Music Industry is proud to announce that Dame Vera Lynn will be the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the Classic BRIT Awards.

National treasure and original “Forces’ Sweetheart”, Dame Vera, who this week celebrates her 101st birthday, was one of the biggest-selling female artists of last year after releasing her latest album ‘Vera 100’ which charted at No.3. Dame Vera continues to make music history by being the only recording artist in the world to span the charts since they began to the present day! The singer famously boosted the nation’s morale during the darkest days of World War II, and has been honoured countless times for her services to entertainment and charity. Her latest accolade came in the Queen’s 2016 birthday honours list when she was made a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour – the first person from the field of popular entertainment to do so. Over the decades, Vera Lynn’s popularity has never waned and she remains perhaps the most beloved of all British female vocalists.

The future is very much on the Classic BRIT Awards agenda with the launch of The Sound Of Classical poll to promote the best emerging artists and ones-to-watch in classical music. Aged 30 or under and tipped for a great future, the winner will be chosen by an expert panel and revealed at the ceremony in June.

The first entrant is Jess Gillam, 19 years old and from Cumbria, who made music history as the first saxophonist to win the Woodwind Final of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2016.  She is already becoming recognised as an international ambassador for her instrument – exploding the audience’s understanding of what a saxophone can do.

“I’m so thrilled to be part of the Sound of Classical Poll,” says Jess, “The saxophone is such a versatile and expressive instrument and is not recognised as widely as other instruments in the classical world so it’s a real honour to be a part of such a fantastic event. To give a platform for young artists to show their talent to a wider audience is a great idea and I hope it inspires more young musicians.“

Entries are open from today until May 20th. Find more information at classicbrits.co.uk .

From concert halls to video games, film soundtracks to radio and from festivals to TV ads, classical music has never been heard in as many ways as it is now.  Since the last Classic BRIT Awards in 2013, digital technology and streaming have transformed how people engage with classical music, making the genre a welcome part of everyday life.  That change is now accelerating.

Whether it is Michael Ball & Alfie Boe’s eye-catching sales, or 18 year old Nottingham cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason taking his critically acclaimed debut into the top 20 of the pop charts, this music is scoring success after success.

As radio media partner, Classic FM will be promoting The Classic BRIT Awards to its 5.7 million weekly listeners on-air, on ClassicFM.com and on social media, with exclusive artist performances and video interviews recorded backstage. From 9am on the day of the awards show, Classic FM will broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall, giving listeners unrivalled access to this spectacular classical music event.

Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive BPI & BRIT Awards, said: “We want to celebrate outstanding British music in all its forms, so I am thrilled that we can announce the return of the Classic BRITs to its home at the Royal Albert Hall in partnership with ITV and Classic FM. The Awards are coming back with a new format that will not only honour outstanding classical artists and exceptional new talent, but will pay tribute to classic music from a wide range of genres.

“Classic music is fast-growing its reach on streaming services and on radio, with exciting new stars such as Sheku and Tokio Myers bringing in new fans. It is the perfect time to be relaunching the Classic BRITs to celebrate the contribution this wonderful music makes to our lives.”

Myleene Klass says, I am incredibly excited and honoured to have been invited to host the Classic BRITs again. Classical music is my world. I can’t remember a time when it wasn’t in my life. It’s wonderful to see this genre of music getting the platform it deserves and important the new generation of artists coming up through the ranks are represented too alongside the more established artists we all know and love.”

Alexander Armstrong says, “It is wonderful to host the Classic BRIT Awards and celebrate such an amazing array of talent, with so many people watching at home.  This is music that people love and I know our enthusiasm will come through loud and clear.”

Classic Facts:

  • The Official Charts Company reports that classical music streams have risen 52% in the first 2 months of 2018 alone, surpassing 10 million streams every week except one.

  • Classic FM, the UK’s most popular classical station has 5.7 million people tuning in every week and over 500,000 of those listeners are aged 25 and under, a 43% increase year-on-year. More than a million listeners are under-35. Classic FM also has more than 2 million social media followers and, in 2018, has a higher level of social media engagement than any other UK radio brand.

  • The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra recently reported that 62% of British adults want to broaden their music horizons, with 22% wanting to learn more about orchestral music, beating folk, rock and jazz as the top genre. The age group most likely to want to learn about classical music was the under 25s.

  • Apple Music reports that a quarter of its subscribers listen to the genre.

Video game soundtracks have also become an important route to classical music for younger listeners.  Classic FM’s most streamed show ever championed music from video games, with its popular series ‘High Score’. Figures like leading film composer Hans Zimmer have become famous with a new generation of fans, Zimmer having written the soundtrack to hit game ‘Call of Duty’.  Game soundtracks are performed by famous orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, who recorded the music for ‘Final Fantasy XV’ at the legendary Abbey Road studios in London, now the ‘go-to’ location for many other ambitious projects.

Sam Jackson, Classic FM’s Managing Editor, said: “The Classic BRITs shares our mission to make classical music relevant to everyone, so we’re excited that this celebration of world-class talent is back. As the UK’s most popular classical music station, Classic FM is the perfect partner for the prestigious event and, with more than half a million listeners aged 25 and under tuning in each week, we’re continuing our vision to champion new talent through The Sound of Classical poll. The Classic BRITs comes at a very exciting time for classical music in the UK with growing and younger audiences. It’s set to be a fantastic night!”

The glittering ceremony will take place on 13th June at the Royal Albert Hall, London with a night packed full of some the greatest musicians in the world.  Hosted by Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong, it will be broadcast later that week on ITV.

DARA O’BRIAIN, SARA PASCOE & DESIREE BURCH JOIN THE LINE UP FOR AN EVENING OF COMEDY HOSTED BY RUSSELL HOWARD WITH GUESTS GREG DAVIES, PAUL CHOWDHRY AND MO GILLIGAN

Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall returns for the event’s 18th year and is set to be another special one. As well as welcoming some of the UK’s biggest music stars, Teenage Cancer Trust also welcomes some of Britain’s best-loved comedians for an evening of laughter.

We are delighted to reveal that Dara O’Briain, Sara Pascoe and Desiree Burch have been added to the line up, alongside comedy heavyweights Greg Davies, Paul Chowdhry and Mo Gilligan.

The comedy night host, Russell Howard, will guide the audience through an exciting evening of comedy, continuing the long tradition of the cream of British comedy joining forces for a unique and unforgettable night of laughs.

Since 2000, numerous well-known comedians have performed for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall raising over £27 million for young people with cancer. Those incredible shows have played a vital role in helping the charity to provide 28 specialist cancer units and over 60 nursing and support staff in NHS hospitals across the UK, making an incredible difference to young people diagnosed with cancer around the country.

Russell Howard is one of the UK’s most successful comedians, with over 3.2 million Facebook fans and 1.2 million Twitter followers. This will not be Russell’s first time at the Royal Albert Hall, as during his 2017 world tour, Russell broke the record for the most consecutive nights performed at the venue, selling out ten shows in a row. The tour, which culminated in Russell’s Netflix Special, Recalibrate, ran for 81 dates across 12 countries. Russell is also the host and writer of his own hit show, The Russell Howard Hour, on Sky One. Previous to this, Russell appeared in 96 episodes of Russell Howard’s Good News, which was BBC Three’s best ever performing entertainment show and last year, the first series of Russell’s travelogue series, Russell Howard & Mum: USA Road Trip, became Comedy Central UK’s highest rating original commission.

New addition to the bill is Dara O Briain, who will be performing an exclusive set at the Teenage Cancer Trust comedy night. Dara is best known for hosting BBC’s Mock the Week, Robot Wars, Stargazing Live, The Apprentice: You’re Fired, Dara & Ed’s Great Big Adventure and Three Men In A Boat and Dara O Briain’s Go 8Bit. Dara has released five best-selling DVD’s with Universal Pictures and his new show ‘Voice of Reason’ will be touring the world in 2017-2019.

Joining Dara is comedian Greg Davies. Greg is the writer and star of the hit Channel 4 sitcom, Man Down. He first became known as the infamously psychotic Head of Sixth Form, Mr Gilbert, in The Inbetweeners (Channel 4), and as Ken in Cuckoo (BBC3) – which earned him a BAFTA nomination. Greg is also the host of Taskmaster (Dave). Taskmaster was both BAFTA and Emmy-nominated in 2017, and won Best Entertainment Show at this year’s Broadcast Awards. Greg’s debut stand-up show, Firing Cheeseballs at a Dog, was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award. He returned for another sell-out tour, The Back of My Mum’s Head, in 2013 – which was followed up with a best-selling DVD. Greg has just finished the extension leg of his biggest-ever tour, You Magnificent Beast, which will be released as a Netflix Special later this year.

Over the last year multi award winning Sara Pascoe has starred on Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief (making it to the Final); adapted Pride and Prejudice for the Nottingham Playhouse/ York Theatre Royal; filmed a solo stand up special for TV: Sara Pascoe Live from the BBC; hosted an episode of Live at the Apollo and appeared as a weekly guest on Frankie Boyle’s New World Order. Sara has appeared on television shows ranging from Have I Got News For You, QI and Travel Man and filmed and co-stared in the most recent WIA series. Sara is currently writing her second book, Sex Power Money, and has a radio series The Modern Monkey on BBC Radio 4. Following sold out runs in the West End and the Edinburgh Festival, Sara will tour her live show, LadsLadsLads this autumn.

Star of Taskmaster, Stand Up for the Week, and Live at the Apollo, Paul Chowdhry, will also be gracing the stage on 20th March. Paul embarked on his Live Innit tour in Autumn 2017 and huge demand for tickets led to the entire run selling out, and Paul becoming the first British Asian stand-up to sell out the 10,000-seater SSE Wembley Arena. The performance was voted into the SSE Live Awards’ Top 10 events of 2017 and Paul’s tour was then extended into Spring 2018, and has since stretched further into 2018 to meet demand – with a further 36 dates added so far. With success across Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, Paul’s video posts frequently receive over a million views – with some reaching over 5 million views.

Desiree Burch is a comedian, writer, solo performer, actor and NY-to-London transplant. She has appeared on ‘Have I Got News For You’ (BBC), ‘Live at the Apollo’ (BBC), ‘Frankie Boyle’s American Autopsy’ (BBC), ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ (Channel 4) and ‘Before the Morning After’ (NBC/SeeSo). Radio wise she has appeared on ‘The News Quiz’ (BBCR4) and voiced Pamela Winchell on #1 international hit podcast ‘Welcome to Night Vale’, as well as featuring on other podcasts, ‘The Guilty Feminist’, ‘Made of Human’, ‘Dumb White Guy’, ‘Friends Like Us’ and ‘Writing Excuses’. Her past two solo Edinburgh Shows ‘This is Evolution’ and ‘Unf*ckable’ have been sell out hits.

Mo Gilligan will also be performing on the night. He is the UK’s fastest rising social media star with an online reach running into the multiple millions. With his high-energy style and stunning physicality, Mo creates his own shortform comedy content across a range of platforms. His sketches regularly go viral and he has collaborated with the likes of The BET Awards, Disturbing London, Unilad, Wall of Comedy and Link Up TV, to name a few. Mo’s debut Coupla Cans Tour sold out in minutes, including Birmingham’s 1000 seater O2 venue. In 2017 he also appeared as a brand ambassador for Adidas alongside Stormzy, sent Instagram into a meltdown when international superstar Drake quoted one of his catchphrases, hosted Tinie Tempah’s Ibiza closing party performing to over 10,000 people and consistently hit well over a million views for every new sketch offering he has released on social media.

2018’s impressive line-up adds to an extraordinary legacy that has seen unique, once in a lifetime comedic performances from the likes of Jo Brand, Russell Kane and Michael McIntyre.

Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall was conceived and curated by the charity’s Honorary Patron Roger Daltrey CBE, the legendary frontman of The Who, and he still plays a vital role in making the shows happen.

This year’s shows are once again generously supported by headline sponsors Aldi who are aiming to raise £5m for the charity, alongside associate sponsors American Airlines and Tangle Teezer.

Further incredible support is provided by media partners Absolute Radio and Metro.

It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights…..

The Muppets announce their most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetational, full-length live show for the first time ever in Europe!

Inspired by their hit 1980s variety TV show The Muppet Show, this magical event will be headlined by Kermit The Frog, leading an all-star cast of pigs, bears and whatevers in….

The Muppets Take The O2

Live on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 July, The Muppets will be lighting up The O2 for 2 evenings and 1 matinee, so everyone can share in the mayhem, the music and laughter of a one-of-a-kind live Muppet performance!

Tickets go on sale on 9am on Wednesday February 28th HERE

Following a hugely successful trio of sell-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl last year, this exclusive European show is the first time The Muppets have ever performed their full live extravaganza outside of the USA.  The O2 will become a place where Muppets and humans can come together to share a special connection.

“We’re thrilled to bring this first time ever live performance to all our fans in the UK,” says Kermit, “There’ll be music, comedy, incredible surprises, plus total and complete chaos. In other words: It’s the Muppets! Yaaaay!

“We’ve wanted to do a show like this for a long time, and now—after finally getting all Miss Piggy’s luggage through customs — we have the chance to appear live at The O2 arena!”

Miss Piggy adds, “I can’t wait to be there to entertain, astonish, dazzle and otherwise gobsmack all moi’s fabulous fans! Wear socks, sweetie, cause I’m gonna knock ‘em off.  I will amaze everyone with this first-ever live performance….and, of course, for the official renaming of ‘The MOI 2’ arena.”

Long time Muppet watchers and critics, Statler & Waldorf also have a view:
STATLER: “This is gonna be the ultimate  ‘Don’t Miss It’ event….”
WALDORF: “Yeah, if you don’t go to it, you won’t miss it.”

Kermit and the ultimate diva herself – Miss Piggy will be joined by very special celebrity guests for musical performances, sketches and more. Highlights of the show include the fabulous Miss Piggy in a show-stopping musical extravaganza, a rocking musical jam by The Muppets’ legendary house band Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, with legendary drummer Animal.  Plus the debut of all-new original chapters of those classic Muppet Show sketches – Pigs in Space, Veterinarian’s Hospital and Muppet Labs and many, many more extraordinary surprises.

To celebrate this special weekend of Muppet fun, The O2 will be rolling out the green carpet for Muppet movies, street food, live music, best costume competitions and a whole host of celebrations for Piggy, Kermit and the gang.

Since 1965, Kermit the Frog and The Muppets have been entertaining the world. In movies, on television, on the internet, and now live on stage, The Muppets have done just what they set out to do: sing, dance and make people happy.

Under the often times steady, but frequently frantic leadership of Kermit the Frog, The Muppets have made eight theatrical motion pictures, countless television specials and appearances and, of course, that international mahna-mahna…. excuse us, we mean “phenomena”….The Muppet Show.

With a cast of characters headlined by the inimitable, yet exasperating Miss Piggy, the hilarious Fozzie Bear, the inexplicable Great Gonzo and the extremely-loud Animal, The Muppets remain as beloved and befuddling entertaining as ever. So, please stop reading this — because if you’re here then you probably already know all this stuff – and join the aforementioned entertainers – plus Sam Eagle, The Swedish Chef, Pepé the King Prawn, Lew Zealand, Rowlf and so many more! It’s time to get things started. This is what we call The Muppets Take The O2.

And while this is the first ever live show for The Muppets in London, they are honorary citizens of the UK’s capital….

  • The Muppet Show – their original 1976 TV show – was filmed at Elstree Studios, London
  • In their second feature film The Great Muppet Caper (1981), The Muppets must travel to London to stop a jewel heist…..
  • In 1992, their fourth film, The Muppet Christmas Carol, was an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic book and is based in London. This film starred possibly one of London’s most famous sons – Sir Michael Caine
  • Jim Henson’s Creature Shop which created some of world’s most memorable characters and was a fundamental part of films like The Muppet Christmas Carol was based in Hampstead and then Camden in North London until 2005
  • Muppets Most Wanted, their most recent film starring Ricky Gervais, ends with a heist at the Tower of London. London was also the backdrop to much of the film with buildings like Holborn’s Freemasons’ Hall doubling as a Spanish art gallery

The Martin ‘Youth’ Glover produced album, is currently #1 on the US Reggae Charts and Top 20 in UK Indie Charts, album of the day on 6Music along with support from Uncut, Q, Noisey and Pitchfork.

Next up is Three The Hard Way – Legendary British Reggae lead vocalists Dennis Bovell, David Hinds and Brinsley Forde come together to form a UK reggae super group…Three The Hard Way. Each member of the Three The Hard Way team are the pioneers who put British Reggae firmly on the map. They have each fronted one the UK’s outstanding reggae outfits, Steel Pulse, Matumbi, Aswad and now come together for a unique and powerful performance.

Grammy winners and multiple nominations between them coupled with countless number ones and top ten hits either as musicians, song writers or producers give this group a wealth of credibility and worldwide respect. They have decided it is time to trail blaze once again to share their unique talents with the universe. Without question this unified project is certain to welcome in a new age of British Reggae.

Special guest for the evening is David Rodigan MBE. For over forty years the top dog in Britain’s reggae dance-halls, he is one of the leading authority figures of British Reggae.

Starting out in 1978 on BBC Radio London, before moving to Capital Radio in 1979 with his legendary ‘Roots Rockers’ show, his credibility was ensured when he began clashing with Jamaica’s champion DJ, Barry G. Topped off by winning the Champion Trophy at World Clash Reset in 2012 beating all the top Jamaican sound systems in the West Indies, USA and England.

When UB40 embarked on their Labour Of Love series in 1983, they were keen to tell the world about the songs that they grew up with in Birmingham. They dug deep into the reggae and rock steady rhythms of yesteryear and ended up producing three Labour Of Love albums, spawning hit after hit including the global smash hits ‘Red Red Wine’, ‘Kingston Town’ and ‘Cherry Oh Baby’. Now, with their new album ‘A Real Labour Of Love’ – to be released March 2nd on UMC – they shine a light on classic reggae tracks from the 1980s.

Appearing at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time, UB40 Featuring Ali, Astro & Mickey together with their incredible eight-piece reggae band are proud to show their support for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Their latest record ‘A Real Labour Of Love’ (out March 2nd on UMC) is dedicated to long-serving trombonist John Johnson, who sadly passed away last year.

The festival, which formed two decades ago in 1998, will this year take place from 19th – 22nd July at Hill Farm in Steventon, Oxfordshire. 2018 will be the first time ever that the festival has opened its doors on the Thursday with the festival taking place over four days this year.

Heading up the festival on it’s opening Thursday are band of brothers Peace, with Mercury Prize nominated indie rockers Friendly Fires topping the bill on Friday and four-time Brit nominated and multi million selling singer-songwriter George Ezra headlining the Saturday. Sunday headliners to be announced in the next wave of acts very soon, George commented on what fans can expect from his set:

I’m so excited to be playing my first ever Truck Festival and over the moon that my debut gets to be as headliner.  It’s been on my bucket list for a long time. My new album Staying At Tamara’s will have been out in the world for a few months by then so I’ll be coming to beautiful Oxfordshire armed with a host of new songs and a few choice oldies, and can’t wait to get up and play. See you there!” – George Ezra

Festival Organiser Matt Harrap commented, “We’re extremely excited to announce our first wave of artists for this year’s show! Having artists of the calibre of George Ezra and Friendly Fires coming to headline the event after many years of asking is truly humbling and their sets will no doubt live long in the memory.

Returning heroes Peace will be the perfect way to kick off the festival with our first ever Thursday headliners. Personally I’m really thrilled to have the legend that is Gaz Coombes back at his favourite festival for the first time since 2013 as well as some brilliant up and coming local talent such as Low Island, Little Brother Eli and Kanadia. Mix in the likes of De La Soul, Jake Bugg and Everything Everything and the epic Switch takeover of Palm City then we’ve got a real party!

What’s even more exciting is this is only the beginning with a special Sunday headliner due to be announced very soon! With ticket sales ahead of this time last year, we really recommend not hanging around!”

The festival, which prides itself as the “anti major festival” has long championed local artists with Oxford’s own Gaz Coombes back this year, he commented

“Very excited to be joining the line up at Truck Festival this year. See you in the fields my lovelies!” – Gaz Coombes

As well as Oxfordshire based artists such as Kanadia, Little Brother Eli, Switch DJ’s, Low Island, I Cried Wolf, Leader and of course Oxford Symphony Orchestra, the festival has just launched its Band App which offers the chance for local bands to submit their music to Truck’s organisers and be offered a spot to play the festival. Truck Festival’s organisers personally listen to every single submission. Artists should upload their music to Truck’s website by 30th March – https://truckfestival.com/contact/band-app/

The line-up also includes emerging artists such as hotly tipped The Sherlocks, Pale Waves, Marika Hackman, Nervus and The Amazons amongst others.

The Amazons – who were originally tipped for stardom in the BBC Sound of 2017 and released their debut last year to great acclaim – have praised Truck for championing the local music scene and new artists:

“We remember playing Truck Festival in 2016. It was one of the craziest crowds we’d got at that point in our careers. Excited to be returning to a festival that’s a stone’s throw away from our home in Berkshire, and one that has been an excellent supporter of local music for the last few years.” – The Amazons

The line-up also offers plenty of artists performing a little further from home including New York hip-hop icons De La Soul and fellow Americans, indie rockers We Are Scientists who will be performing on the back of their much anticipated album ‘Megaplex’.

The full Truck Festival 2018 line up:

Friendly Fires, George Ezra, De La Soul, Jake Bugg, Everything Everything, Circa Waves, Peace, The Amazons, Rat Boy, Gaz Coombes, The Sherlocks, Moose Blood, We Are Scientists, Kurupt FM, Shy FX, Redlight, Holy Goof, Skepsis, Darkzy, Dimension, Macky Gee, Bru C, Switch DJ’s, MJ Cole, Barely Legal, The Magic Gang, Marika Hackman, Coasts, Blaenavon, Tom Walker, Pale Waves, HMTLD, Gengahr, Jaws, Black Honey, Dream Wife

Friday 27th July The Libertines / Saturday 28th July Catfish and the Bottlemen / Sunday 29th July Jamiroquai *UK Festival Exclusive*

Y Not Festival returns for its biggest year yet with an astounding three-day line up built for music lovers. Set in the heart of Derbyshire, the festival reveals its highly anticipated line up for 2018 – and does NOT disappoint.

Back for its 13th year this summer, Y Not will take place in Pikehall, Derbyshire from 27th-29th July.  Since 2005, when it began life as a house party spilling over into deepest Derbyshire, the event has remained home grown and true to its roots. With panoramic countryside views, a fully stocked bar of local ales, a mouth watering selection of food and more live music than you can shake a stick at…

Y Not is a whole weekend of good music, good food and care-free fun in the middle of the beautiful Peak District. Just bring yourself, some wellies and a killer fancy dress outfit.

Kicking off the weekend are modern rock and roll legends The Libertines. The Arcadian dreamers are one of the most important bands of the 21st Century, sound-tracking long rebellious summers for the stylish kids in the riot, their songs standing tall as some of the best guitar driven party tunes of all time.

Headlining Saturday night are fellow British rockers Catfish and the Bottlemen. The Brit Award winners have become essential festival favourites after gaining a massive following off the back of their UK Top 10 2014 debut album ‘The Balcony’ and Number 1 second album ‘The Ride’.

And Y Not 2018 will be going out with a bang this year when Jamiroquai close the weekend with a UK festival exclusive! Lead by unconventional front man Jay Kay, aka the Buffalo Man, aka The Cat in the Hat, the band was crucial to nineties and noughties dance floors, fostering futuristic funk via 27 million album sales, plus Grammy and Ivor Novello Awards. They are now captivating a new generation of fans with latest album ‘Automaton’.

The rest of the bill is peppered with a heady mix of classic household names, the best of the new wave and local ones-to-watch.

National Treasures Manic Street Preachers, fresh from the April release of their hugely anticipated new album ‘Resistance Is Futile’ will lead the way, assisted by Leeds’ finest festival draw The Kaiser Chiefs. Fronted by the charismatic Ricky Wilson, the band have had a string of anthemic songs so Y Not festival-goers are in for a hit-packed performance.

The line-up also includes the irrepressible Fat White Family, blues icon Seasick Steve and exceptional English punks Buzzcocks whose career has spanned more than four decades!

Exciting emerging acts join them, including the most tipped act for 2018 – Pale Waves, plus The Amazons, Tom Grennan and Circa Waves. The Amazons who were tipped for stardom in the BBC Sound of 2017 and also released their debut last year to great acclaim have commented on the strong line-up  Really excited to return to Y Not Festival this year. The festival gave us one of our first main stage slots back in 2016, and we fell in love with the location. We’re looking forward to coming back and joining an amazing lineup of music.”

Y Not has a longstanding history of nurturing home grown talent and emerging acts, holding slots on the bill for the best in their local area. Returning this year after cutting their teeth at Y Not, South Yorkshire’s hotly tipped The Sherlocks are looking forward to getting stuck in, “We love this festival, one of the best in the UK,” say the band, “We are where we belong, on the main stage. It would be an honour to one day come back and headline!“

The full Y Not 2018 line up:

The Libertines, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Jamiroquai, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street, Preachers, Seasick Steve, The Levellers, Circa Waves, The Amazons, Fat White Family, Buzzcocks, Moose Blood, Reverend And The Makers, The Sherlocks, Tom Grennan, Shame, Coasts, Mr Motivator, DJ Luck & MC Neat, Tom Walker, Pale Waves, Lucy Spraggan, Jaws, Sam Fender, The Lancashire Hotpots, Turbowolf, King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys, The Orielles, Mullally, Everly Pregnant Brothers, King No One, When Young, Dead! and Bloody Knees.

Festival organiser Simon Mawbey – “We’re so happy to be back with our biggest line up to date. There are a lot of changes and improvements being made to make sure the festival is the best it’s ever been in 13 years and I’m excited that we can come back stronger than ever.”

Y Not recently announced that their new and improved site will be Aston Hill Farm, adjacent to the previous site on Mouldridge Lane. The festival will still take place in the unbeatable setting of the Peak District and the benefits of the location include clearer routes for festival-goers and improved access for service vehicles.

In addition to the site change, Y Not have continued their ongoing communications about improvements, following on from their 2018 Manifesto. This includes the site, staffing, security and traffic management. The updated pledges will ensure this year’s festival will set the highest standards for all Y Not customers.

Final Teen Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall Headliners Announced for 2018

Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall announce their final headline acts for 2018; Britain’s biggest reggae band UB40 Featuring Ali, Astro & Mickey, An Evening of Comedy hosted by Russell Howard, multi-Grammy-winning Nile Rodgers & CHIC, The Who star Roger Daltrey, and British rock legends Def Leppard.

As founding members of Britain’s biggest reggae band UB40, singer Ali Campbell, second vocalist Astro and keyboardist Mickey Virtue topped the UK singles chart on three occasions, selling over 70 million records as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe.

Now, with their new album ‘A Real Labour Of Love’ – to be released March 3rd on UMC – they shine a light on classic reggae tracks from the 1980s.

Appearing at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time as a trio, UB40 Featuring Ali Astro & Mickey show their support for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Their latest record ‘A Real Labour Of Love’ is dedicated to long-serving trombonist John Johnson, who sadly passed away last year.

“We are honoured to be asked to support the Teenage Cancer Trust at The Royal Albert Hall. The fantastic work that has been done over the years continues to pay dividends and support a cause that is so worthwhile. We look forward to a great show and seeing you all on the 19th March. Big love Ali, Astro & Mickey”.

Russell Howard will host an exciting evening of comedy, continuing the long tradition of the cream of British comedy joining forces for a unique and unforgettable night of laughs. The full line-up will be announced soon.

Among music legends, Nile Rodgers is truly exceptional. He amplifies his legacy as a multi-Grammy-winning composer, producer, arranger and guitarist by constantly traversing new musical terrain and successfully expanding the boundaries of popular music.

Rodgers formed CHIC 1976 alongside bassist Bernard Edwards. With an unrivalled catalogue of hits such as ‘Everybody Dance’, ‘Le Freak’, ‘Good Times’ and their on-stage chemistry, they are quite simply the ultimate party band. Not content with their own tracks, they have been sampled on Grandmaster Flash’s ‘Rappers Delight’, Queen’s ‘Another One Bites The Dust’, Blondie’s ‘Rapture’ and Captain Sensible’s ‘Wot?’. Disbanded in the early 1980s, the rhythm section provided instrumental back-up for Diana Ross’ self-titled album, selling over ten million albums internationally. CHIC reunited in 1989, and continue to be one of the best live acts in the world.
Born in Shepherd’s Bush on 1 March 1944, Roger Daltrey CBE first assembled the group that would become The Who in 1961 while at Acton County School, recruiting John Entwistle and subsequently agreeing to John’s proposal that Pete Townshend should join. In those days Roger, whose daytime job was in a sheet metal factory, even made the band’s guitars, and it was his energy and ambition that drove the

group   during  their     formative years.
Daltrey’s solo career outside of The Who, began in 1973 promoting the single ‘Giving It All Away’ which reached number five in the UK charts. Roger has appeared on stage away from The Who on many occasions, and his 1994 solo concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall, with The Juillard Orchestra, was the fastest selling event in the venue’s history.

Since 2000 he has been a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust. That year, ticket sales and revenue from a DVD and CD of The Who & Friends raised over £1.2 million, and as a result Roger was given a Humanitarian Award in 2003 from Time magazine. The Teenage Cancer Trust shows have now become an established and eagerly awaited annual event at the Albert Hall. In February 2005, Roger was awarded a CBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for his services to music and good causes.

Roger says, “We’re now into our 18th year of Teenage Cancer Trust Shows at the Royal Albert Hall and in that time these concerts have raised well over £25 million, as well as giving the Teenage Cancer Trust a voice to educate the public about the special needs of this group within the NHS., “These incredible shows have played a vital role in making sure the charity can provide specialist support to young people with cancer across the UK, but for every young person Teenage Cancer Trust currently supports, there’s another they can’t. The artists who play these shows and the people who come along to see them will help the charity take big steps towards being able to support every young person who needs them.”

This year’s line up is as varied as ever with our good friends Kasabian making a welcome return as is UB40. Chic featuring the incomparable Nile Rodgers will be making their Royal Albert Hall debut, and Courteeners will be playing a one-off London show celebrating the 10th anniversary of their debut album. There will also be a special show from me and my band featuring Who hits as well as some songs the Who never played live. Rounding off the week will be Sheffield’s finest Def Leppard playing their first UK show in three years”.

Def Leppard – Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick “Sav” Savage (bass), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drums) – continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Over the course of their career the band has produced a series of classic ground-breaking albums that have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. The group’s spectacular live shows and arsenal of hits have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as an institution in both the music and touring industry.

Formed in 1977 in Sheffield, UK, the bands singles and albums have entered the fabric of contemporary music. Albums such as “Hysteria”, “Pyromania” and “Adrenalize” and singles like “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, “Animal”, “Let’s Get Rocked”, “Two Steps Behind”, “Make Love Like A Man”, “Armageddon it!”, “Slang” and “Photograph” have led Def Leppard to be dubbed “The UK’s greatest arena rock band”.

The bands all conquering 1987 “Hysteria” album alone produced seven worldwide hit singles. Def Leppard are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the U.S.A.

In January 2018 Def Leppard’s full recording catalogue was made available online for the first time, making them one of the last multi-platinum selling acts to be added to streaming and download platforms. The response was overwhelming with the bands singles and albums entering the charts across the globe and introducing the music of Def Leppard to a whole new generation. On release the band had three albums enter the Top 10 of the iTunes chart.

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott says, “When Def Leppard and The Who played together last October, Roger asked us if we’d like to contribute to the Teenage Cancer Trust shows this year. Having performed myself with Roger and The Who at the Shepherds Bush Empire back in 2014 solo it was a no brainer to say yes as a band. It is a privilege and an honour to be involved with such a worthwhile event”.

Previously announced for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall are Courteeners and Kasabian.

Over 235 artists and comedians have played Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall since 2000, raising over £27 million for young people with cancer. These incredible shows have played a vital role in helping the charity to provide 28 specialist cancer units and over 60 nursing and support staff in NHS hospitals across the UK, making an incredible difference to young people diagnosed with cancer around the country. But for every young person Teenage Cancer Trust currently supports, there’s another they can’t. Every penny they raise goes towards their goal of reaching every young person with cancer who needs them.

2018’s impressive line-up adds to an extraordinary legacy that has seen unique, once in a lifetime performances like Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn performing together for the first time ever in 2013, Sir Paul McCartney in 2012, plus everyone from Muse to The Cure, Tinie Tempah, Florence + The Machine, Ed Sheeran, Kasabian, Stereophonics, Paul Weller, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Sir Tom Jones and many more. And, of course, some of the greatest concerts of the past 20 years from The Who.

Last year hit new heights with the 100th Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall show, performed, of course, by The Who.  There were also incredible performances by Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, Paul Weller, Pet Shop Boys with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a night of comedy hosted by Romesh Ranganathan, plus surprise guest appearances by Michael McIntyre and Noel Gallagher.
