Novak Djokovic eased through his quarter-final at the Australian Open, despite carrying a minor injury. In the first major tournament of the year, the world number one beat David Ferrer 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 to set up what promises to be a gripping semi-final against Andy Murray on Friday…
BBC Tennis Correspondent Jonathan Overend made this assessment -
“This was another amazing match from Djokovic, full of the sort of stuff which won him all sorts in 2011. Some of his defensive retrieving – particularly from his forehand corner – is reinventing the sport. No wonder he gets the odd injury here and there. I felt a bit sorry for Ferrer. How he finished the match without a set to his name I don’t know. This was a perfect illustration of how Djokovic is dominating the sport right now, even if not 100%.”
